Qantas cancels 35 interstate flights to and from Darwin

Qantas decided to cancel 35 interstate flights from Darwin between April and June.

Qantas (Qantas) said recently that 35 interstate flights from Darwin will be cancelled between April and June due to a 10 percent drop in demand, according to Taiwan 9.

Qantas flights from Darwin to Sydney and Brisbane will be affected, as will flights from Darwin to Melbourne, Jetstar (Jetstar) from Adelaide and Keynes.

David (Andrew David), chief executive of Qantas, said: "in the past three months, 35 of these flights have been cancelled, equivalent to about 5 percent of these flights."

Since the completion of (INPEX) 's Icthys project, Darwin's population has shrunk significantly, economic has languished and businesses have closed down.

Northern Territory government acknowledges that while government has invested in growing tourism, flight cuts are another blow to Northern Territory residents. Tourism Director Moss (Lauren Moss) said: "strengthening tourism is only part of (government) 's attempt to stimulate economic. I know that Northern Territory residents are always disappointed by the frequency of the news, but these are purely airline business decisions. What I can tell the residents of the Northern Territory is that we will certainly discuss with all airlines the maintenance of local services, and we believe there is something people want to see here. "

Qantas said the flight cuts were only temporary and the schedule would return to normal during the dry season peak from July to October.
