How To Get There

• For those driving cars: from Hobart, take the Tasman Highway (A3) across the Tasman Bridge, go past Hobart International Airport, and drive to Sorell, which is 27km southeast of Hobart. Once you’re in Sorell, turn right to the Arthur Highway (A9) at the traffic lights in the center of the town. Continue along Arthur Highway for 30km until you arrive at the township of Dunalley. Drive through town until you reach the bridge over the canal. Turn left to the bridge and continue for another 44km until you see the turn to the Port Arthur Historic Site on the left. • By coach: Tassielink Transit has regular public coach services between Hobart and Port Arthur. You can check the official website for timetable information, fares, and bookings

Tips for those driving cars

• Fill your car with fuel before your begin your journey. Most service stations in the region close before 6:00pm

• Check rental car restrictions. Some car rental companies have limitations on where you can drive. The Arthur Highway (A9) is a sealed road, however, many smaller roads on the Tasman Peninsula are unsealed or rough, so make sure to check your route and your rental service's terms and conditions before you begin

• Watch out for wildlife roaming around. Animals, including large wallabies and wombats, are abundant throughout Tasmania. Animals are most active and often encountered along the roadside at dawn and dusk so best to take special care when driving during these times
