Guided Tours at Hanson Bay Wildlife Sanctuary

A pocket of wilderness located at the western end of Kangaroo Island, the Hanson Bay Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the best places on the island to view native Australian wildlife in its natural habitat. The 247-acre (100-hectare) reserve stretches along the coast and offers ample opportunities for bushwalking, as well as beachside cabins to rent, a visitor center, and cafe. Visitors can enjoy guided or self-guided walks, the most popular of which is the Koala Walk, a leisurely trail through the Eucalyptus forests, where it's possible to spot wild koalas and enjoy a rare opportunity to admire the adorable creatures from afar in their natural environment. Guided nocturnal walks are also available and common sightings include kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas, possums, and bats. Practical Info: Hanson Bay Wildlife Sanctuary is located at the western end of Kangaroo Island, around a 2-hour drive from Kingscote, and close to attractions such as Admirals Arch, Cape Borda Lighthouse, and the Kelly Hills Conservation Park. 

Guided Koala Walk Tour:

• Take a stroll down our famous Koala Walk and observe the amazing and beautiful Koalas relaxing in the avenues of Eucalyptus trees.  These run for 45 minutes in our "supervised only" areas where our guides will take you straight to where the action is! Then experience our Koala Walk at it's best with our guides. Bring your camera, water bottle and binoculars.

• Guided Koala Walk Tour run at 9am, 10am, 11am, 2.30pm & 3.30pm. Then anytime in between if available.

Sunset Nocturnal Adventure Tour: 

• Take a fully guided 90 minute walk with one of our experienced tour guides. Discover and learn about the nocturnal animals of Kangaroo Island in their natural habitat and environment.  View Koalas, Tammar Wallabies, Kangaroos, Echidnas, Bats and Possums. Take in the spectacular view of the Great Southern Skies on this fun, exciting and educational discovery walk. Our guided nocturnal walk is a must for all international guests!
