Introduction

Kershaw Gardens is located in the central Queensland city of Rockhampton, on the (Fitzory River) side of the Fitzroy River, covering about 50 hectares.

Kershaw Gardens is named after (Cliff Kershaw), Rockhampton's chief health inspector, for his long service to the city. As part of a project to celebrate Australia's bicentennial, the garden, formerly a landfill, was re-planned and opened to the public by Rockhampton since 1976 and was officially completed and opened to the public in September 1988.

With well-maintained plants and lawns, artificial waterfalls, cabins, dog training areas, picnic booths, children's playgrounds and other facilities, Kershaw Gardens is one of the main outdoor recreation venues in the Rockhampton urban area.
