Located on the northeast corner of (Eyre Peninsula) in southern South Australia, Whyalla is about 384km by car from Adelaide and 80km from (Port Augusta), the port of Augusta, with a permanent population of about 31000, making it the third largest city in South Australia.
Whyalla is an industrial city with developed steelmaking and shipbuilding industries close to the iron ore-producing areas, and OneSteel Whyalla Steelworks Tour offers visitors a rare opportunity to visit the steelworks smelting process in depth during a two-and-a-half-hour trip. Visitors will enter a steel mill on a minibus to get close to the story behind Australia's steel-making history for more than 100 years, and the $350 million OneSteel project magnet. The tour guide will explain how to turn iron ore into more than 90 different grades of steel, and see world-class green steel-making processes across blast furnace, wharf, steelmaking plants, foundry and rolling mills.
