Introduction

The Salmon Pond and fishing Museum (Salmon Ponds and the Museum of Trout Fishing) is located about 5 km from New Norfolk in Plenty, west of New Norfolk, a small inland town in southern Tasmania.

For European immigrants in the mid-19th century, Australia's environment was very different from their former homes. They introduced European plants and animals, and salmon was one of them. The pond, built in 1861, was one of the earliest artificial ponds in Tasmania.

Salmon ponds and fishing museums have well-preserved yards and ponds, with a variety of hatching ponds that feed trout from Tasmanian lakes and rivers, with trails and picnics along the river; The history of fishing in the area can be seen in a museum transformed by a cottage inhabited by former pond builders, with caf é s at the same time.
