Located in Newcastle, the second largest city in New South Wales, about 10 meters long and 6.5m wide, the Bogey Hole is an artificial natural sea bath with an average depth of 1.5m.
Bogey Hole sits on a conglomerate rock shelf at the bottom of the Shepherd Hill (Shepherds Hill) cliff, which was built in 1820 and was built by the then supreme commander of Newcastle, Lieutenant Colonel James Thomas Morissett (James Thomas Morisset), who ordered the prisoners to build it. In 1863, the Newcastle City Council opened Bogey Hole to the public, and until now it was still a popular place to swim, especially in quiet summers, where tourists tended to swim. However, it is important to note that if the weather is not good, swimming in the water here is a more dangerous thing, rough waves can easily impact people on hard sharp rocks, or put people into the sea.
