Introduction

The port of German (Port Germein) is a small coastal fishing village north of Spencer Bay (Spencer Gulf) in southern Australia, about 25 kilometers from the port town of Port Pirie.

Port Germein Jetty was once an important transportation hub in the surrounding area, at the time known as the longest pier in the Southern Hemisphere. With the extension of the 1830s railway to the port of German, the utilization rate of the wharf has gradually declined, and the length of the pier has been reduced to 1532 metres today. Even so, the wooden breakwater in the port of German is the longest in all Australia. The wharf is also listed on the South Australian cultural heritage list.

The Port Germein Jetty water is clear and beautiful, and dolphins are often seen playing in the sea by the wharf.
