Introduction

Fort Scratchley is located in Newcastle., the second largest city in New South Wales.

Located at the top of Banner Hill (Flagstaff Hill), Fort Scratchley overlooks (Tasman Sea) in the Tasman Sea and (Hunter Valley), the Hunter River, where military strongholds were built in 1882, consisting of a series of tunnels built on the promontory, due to its excellent geographical location. Until it was abandoned in 1972, there were troops stationed here and fought with the Japanese fleet during World War II.

Renovated in 2008, Fort Scratchley was opened to the public as a military site with museums, exhibition areas and an underground construction tunnel that visitors can explore through guided tours to learn about the daily lives of the guards in the garrison. And to understand the history of the second World War.

In addition, artillery will be fired at 1 pm every day in order to recreate the maritime tradition of the 19th century.
