Introduction
Alsop Island (Althorpe Island) is located at the southernmost end of (Yorke Peninsula), west of Adelaide, in the southern waters of (Innes National Park), Ines National Park, about 8 kilometers from the mainland, and the entire island belongs to Althorpe Islands Conservation Park..
Alsop is a capricious resident with a lighthouse built in 1879 and currently unattended for solar power generation. This is an important habitat for wild birds, with a large number of different species of rare birds. Pets are forbidden to take to the island in order to protect the island's fragile ecology, and visitors need permission to land on the island.
