Introduction

Eungella National Park is located in the cloudy hills west of the port city of Mackay in northern Queensland, about 80 kilometers by car from Mackay, and the small town of Igara (Eungella) on the east side is the entrance and distribution center to Eungella National Park.

Built in 1941, Eungella National Park covers an area of 517 square kilometers and is covered by dense rainforests. Eungella is an indigenous native language, meaning "land of clouds," with an annual rainfall of up to 2240 millimetres, making it often clouded by fog.

Eungella National Park is one of Queensland's most ecologically diverse national parks, with 860 plant species, including those from subtropical and tropical rainforests. Much of the national park is wilderness, dotted with rugged canyons. This is the home of the Igara honey-sucking bird, a newly discovered bird over the past 50 years.

Eungella National Park is well suited for jungle hiking, with more than 20 kilometers of walking trails and scattered observatories in the National Park. Eungella National Park is also known for its platypus, which allows visitors to visit the (Broken River) platform in the Brooke River. Catch the posture of the platypus that dived into the water to eat.

There are two campsites in Eungella National Park, Fern Flat camping area and Broken River bush camp, which have to book and pay in advance.
