Grape harvesting has begun in various parts of South Australia

South Australia's South Flinders Mountain (Southern Flinders) is known for its wine-making and is almost unknown to wine lovers around the world.

Given the warm weather in the South Flinders this year, local Sira grape growers have already started harvesting their grapes this season.

The Kilikanoon Wines-- vineyard, for example, covers an area of up to 18 hectares in Port Germein,-as of Friday, Kilikanoon Wines had harvested 100 tons of grapes and transported them by truck to a brewery in Clare Valley.

However, the dry weather in the north-central region this season and the distance from the breweries means that all grape harvesting must be arranged at night-only the lights of the harvester can guide workers in the vast vineyards.

When all of us began to get ready for the rest, the, Finders Vineyard workers were getting up at 10:00 to take over, starting their eight-hour grape harvest.

For15 years in the wine industry, Lee Victor is familiar with the process of picking grapes at night.

In a sense, picking grapes at night is similar to driving a car, says Lee Victor, and learning how to do a good job at night takes years of practice.

"the only difference is that we work at night, so we turn on all the lights and we can only rely on spotters or something like that, because vision is really not very clear."

"it will take years to drive the harvesters as if they were part of your body."

Because eyesight is really limited, spotters on the ground can help drivers control the quality of the harvest, Lee Victor said.

The reality that Clare Valley winemakers have to face is that because this summer is wetter than usual, this season's harvest has been delayed by three weeks and four weeks.

However, despite the slow start of the harvest, preliminary production should be higher than the average of previous years.

Basically, most of South Australia's wine-growing regions started harvesting last week, while Clare Valley's harvest has begun and Barosss's grape harvest will start this week.
