Marriage is not a grave! Divorce rate in Australia drops to its lowest level in 40 years

The divorce rate in Australia has fallen to its lowest level in 40 years.

The divorce rate in Australia has fallen to its lowest level in 40 years, the Daily Mail reported. In addition, there are more couples living together before marriage than before.

In 1996, there were 2.9 divorces per 1000 people, but by 2016 they had dropped to 1.9, according to (ABS), the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Although Australia's population is growing, the number of divorces fell from 52466 in 1996 to 46604 in 2016.

In 1975, Australia's divorce rate was 1.8 per 1000 people, close to 2016 figures.

Social researcher McClindell (Mark McCrindle) says divorce rates in Australia have declined significantly. It is often said that half of all marriages will eventually end up in divorce, but a comparison of marriage and divorce data shows that only 1 / 3.

In addition, the data show that in 2016, 80% of couples will live together before getting married. But in 1975, it was only 16%.

On the other hand, despite the introduction of the No-fault divorce (no-fault divorce) law in 1975, Australia's marriage rate is on the rise. In 2015, 4.8 per 1000 people married, up slightly from 4.9 in the past two years.

McClindell says an average of 326 people get married in Australia every day, and October and November are popular months of marriage.
