Henley Beach merchants have no power for five weeks! SA Power and AGL play football! Shopkeeper laments: it's too hard to do business in Adelaide

How hard is it to do business in Adelaide?

Lee Mickan's store is ready for everything, but there's no power!

You can't imagine that in such a bustling place as Henley Beach, electricity can be a pain in the neck. She ran around, begged Grandpa to sue Grandma, and waited five weeks! It's just because it's stuck at the meter level.

Ms Mickan said that she had been waiting for everything to open in April at Henley Square's store, but that her store had been delayed again and again because the meter was too late to be installed.

"people keep calling to ask me when I can open," Mickan said. We also got a lot of resumes, but I can't do anything because we don't know when to open. "

Mickan said that during this period of time, she kept moving around, lobbying SA Power,AGL, and the local MP and energy minister Dan Van Holst Pellekaan, and the energy and water watchdog after a lot of hard work before finally installing the meter.

She said she was happy that the meter had been installed, but it was disappointing that it had taken so long.

"I know that other people may be in the same situation, and if they are not as proactive as I am, they will have to wait like this."

But she still doesn't know when her store will open. It's because SA Power and AGL are pinching each other, she says, that the delay has been so long.

"you need a NMI number first, but AGL said SA Power didn't give them the numbers. SA Power and AGL were different," Mickan said.

Paul Roberts, SA Power's corporate affairs manager, said that the meters should be installed by power retailers such as AGL, and that the power supply had long since been docked. "the national rules that came into effect on December 1, 2017 changed the (AEMC) regulations," said. Paul Roberts. SA Power Networks can no longer legally install the meter, but the retailer is responsible for the installation and replacement of the meter. "

"if the retailer asks us for the NMI number on April 17, we will give the retailer number on April 18," Mickan said, understanding that SA Power can only provide "partial services" at this stage. But she said, "I don't think they understand that we don't have a meter."
