Woolworths was fined $45,000 for selling a number of expired foods

Retail giant Woolworths has been fined a hefty amount for selling out-of-date food.

Woolworths supermarket in (Abbott St), Albert Street, Keynez, was fined $45,000 for failing to check the food shelf life, violating the 2006 Food Act.

According to the Keynes Post, in August 2016, (Tropical Public Health Services Cairns), a tropical Keynesian public health service, conducted an investigation into the use dates of supermarkets in Kunzhou and found a problem with Woolworths.

The results of the survey showed that the supermarket's 12 items, ranging from one day to 168 days overdue, included bread, fresh pasta, snacks, cheese, dipping and precooked meals.

Brad Milligan--, head of the Department of Environmental Health, said Woolworths had failed to follow the process of removing all expired items from shelves.

He also said it was the sixth Woolworths violation in Kunzhou in the past 10 years.

Although this is the first time Woolworths's Albert Street branch has committed a violation, it is the company's sixth such violation in Kunzhou in the past 10 years, he said.

The 45,000-yuan fine highlights the seriousness of the violation and the extent to which the sale of expired products poses a threat to public health.

"We also recommend that consumers check the date of use before buying to avoid potential health risks," Milligan said.

Roma and Mission Beach were also reported to have found violations of the 2006 Food Act, fined $40, 000 and $25,000, respectively.

At present, Woolworths supermarket has not responded to the matter.
