Melbourne, a disease that has been lurking among cat owners for nearly 40 years!

When it comes to the owner of the cat, the cute appearance of acting cute appears in front of us, especially the kitten! Who can't love it!

However, according to ABC news, a cat plague, which has been dormant for nearly 40 years, has returned to the world in nature. This is very likely to be fatal to your cat owners!

Dr. Mark Westman, a veterinarian and postdoctoral fellow at the University of Sydney, and Dr. Richard Malik, a veterinary specialist at the University of Sydney, recently analysed and collated a related report:

According to the survey, this week in the Greater Melbourne area, there have been several cases of stray cats infected with cat plague!

What is cat plague?

Cat plague also known as cat parvovirus, also known as cat panleukopenia (FPV)! It's a transmissible enteritis spread between cats! Cells in the small intestine of infected cats are destroyed, leading to vomiting, diarrhoea, fever, sleepiness, anorexia and sudden death.

The cat parvovirus was a common disease in the 1960s and 1970s. It's just that Australia has a vaccine for a long time. It's one of the first countries to develop an effective vaccine!

The typical case in the 1970s was the purchase of unvaccinated kittens from markets or pet shops, or from sites where vaccination agreements were not strict.

From the 1980s to 2015, because of the popularity of vaccines, performance temporarily curbed the spread of the disease! There are few large-scale cases of feline plague infection, but for wild cats, there are individual infections.

Once the kittens were infected with the disease, even if they survived, it would be extremely painful for the rest of the day. Drugs that reduce vomiting, relieve pain, and treat bacterial infections are expensive!

Treatment costs at least thousands of dollars! And even if treated, the mortality rate is still high!

The spread of cat plague is mainly carried out by feces-mouth this way of transmission, domestic cat owners accidentally close to the infected stray cats, the virus will also be brought into the room! However, there is no risk that the disease will spread to people!

Why does cat plague show up again?

Although cat plague appears to have disappeared from Australia in the past 40 years, cat parvovirus has not been completely eliminated from the Australian cat race! Especially in wild cats, there has always been cat plague!

In Australia, the number of wild cats without ownership is six times the number of domestic cats with owners!

On the one hand, the adaptability of the virus is increasing; on the other hand, many remote families do not have enough budget to pay for the kitten vaccine!

For this highly contagious, persistent, drug-resistant cat plague virus, only the increased immunity of the entire cat population is the best protection for them!

However, the average kitten needs at least two or three injections of the vaccine at least 200 bucks per kitten! For poor families (about 880 a week), this is already a big expense!

When the vaccination rate falls below 70%, the entire cat population will be in trouble!

How to protect the cat master?

The simplest, roughest way is to get vaccinated directly! The effect is very high, up to 99% protection rate!

The Australian Veterinary Association recommends that all cats be vaccinated every year because of the recent severity of the situation!

If a kitten has been vaccinated two or three times, a year later it will be reinforced by another injection! That effect is leverage! It can last at least many years, and it's possible to have antibodies for life! No more cat plague!

The New South Wales Cat Protection Society has started funding Sydney-based cat owners to vaccinate their cat owners free of charge!

In addition to taking good care of the cat master, outside interference (wildcat) must also be reduced! As a result, a controversial plan to trap wild cats is on the agenda!

Cat plague rages recently, shovel shit officials, if their master has not been vaccinated, must take it! Since you choose to raise it, you should be good to it, responsible for it!
