A city in Australia has cancelled tens of thousands of yuan in fines for more than 13,000 drivers because of a parking meter problem.

According to the Brisbane Times, drivers were fined as much as eight hundred and fifty thousand yuan in 2017-18 because of a large number of parking meter problems and traffic police errors, and the Brisbane city government had to withdraw the fines.

Other reasons for lifting the penalty include that timers have been charged but registration errors have been made, and traffic police are sympathetic or reasonably suspicious of medical emergencies or vehicle failures.

According to city records, the most common parking violations include parking meters and fee parking violations, exceeding the parking time limit, and parking hours exceeding the specified time in the official traffic area.

All the above violations will be fined 97 yuan.

More serious violations, such as parking in closed areas or on the yellow line, will be fined 130 yuan.

The minimum fine for the city is 65 yuan, because the car owner stops longer than allowed in the official traffic area.

The maximum fine is 261yuan. The owner of the vehicle concerned parked in the (clearway) or parking space for the disabled without showing a permit.

Opposition lawmaker Jared Cassidy (Jared Cassidy) told the Brisbane Times that although the meter had not been repaired, people were still fined.

He said that the city must solve these problems immediately, otherwise people may think that city officials deliberately use fines to generate income.
