How expensive! Sydney Road tolls rise

Sydney's main road tolls were raised and the cost of driving was further raised.

Starting October 1, Sydney's main road tolls were revised up on a quarterly basis based on consumer price indices, leaving drivers "almost nowhere to escape," Radio 7 reported.

A $0.07 to A $7.46 increase in (Eastern Distributor) regular car tolls and an increase in truck tolls to A $14.92 on Sydney's eastern highway. An increase of A $0.08 on the M2 high-speed ordinary car tolls, up to a maximum of A $7.38 throughout the journey, Truck tolls were raised to A $22.13.

Langu Tunnel (Lane Cove Tunnel) ordinary car tolls are now A $3.32 and truck tolls A $10.36.

The hardest hit was commuters who used to use (Chatswood) to Yiping (Epping) train to avoid road tolls. The train line will be shut down for seven months, affected by the construction of (Metro North West) on the northwest Sydney subway line.

New state government reminds drivers to be eligible for free vehicle registration if they pay more than A $25 a week for road tolls.
