The ROK and the DPRK sign Panmunjom Declaration: agree to denuclearize the Peninsula as a Common goal

According to Yonhap News Agency, on the afternoon of the 27th local time, South Korean President Moon Jae-yin and the highest leader of North Korea signed the "Panmunjom Declaration" and issued a common agreement after the end of the inter-Korean summit. South Korean leaders said they would build the (DMZ) as a "peaceful zone," and the two Koreas unanimously affirmed the common goal of denuclearization of the peninsula through complete denuclearization. A series of measures taken by the DPRK have made great contributions to the denuclearization of the peninsula. The two leaders agreed that the two sides will hold a high-level military dialogue in May.

At 09:30 local time on April 27 (08:30 Beijing time), North Korea's supreme leader Kim Jong-un crossed the military demarcation line from Panmunjom to shake hands with South Korean President Moon Jae-in for the first time.

After the summit talks, the leaders of the ROK and the DPRK held a press conference outside the Peace House. The main points of the common agreement are as follows:

The heads of state of the two countries declared the cessation of all hostile acts against each other;

Agree to seek an end to the state of war by the end of the year;

Proclaiming to urge inter-Korean or inter-Korean u. S.-china talks;

The two sides agreed to establish a joint permanent liaison room in Kaesong;

The two sides announced that they would consult at any time through a hotline for regular talks;

The leaders of the two sides said they would build the inter-Korean demilitarized zone, (DMZ), as a "zone of peace";

The two sides unanimously confirmed the common goal of "denuclearization of the peninsula" through the "complete abandonment of nuclear weapons";

The leaders agreed that a high-level military dialogue would be held in May;

The leaders of the two sides announced that a reunion of separated families will be held on 15 August this year;

Starting from 1 May, all hostile acts, such as loudspeakers, leaflets and so on, were stopped along the military demarcation line;

The two sides agreed that South Korean President Moon Jae-in will visit Pyongyang this autumn;

Both sides said that the Korean-Chaodong Sea Line and Jingyi Line will be connected to the railway and road.

Kim Jong-un and Moon Jae-in planted a 65-year-old pine near the Panmunjom military demarcation line on April 27, local time. It was the year a truce was signed-1953, with soil from North and South Korea.

On the morning of the 27th, the two heads of state held talks in Panmunjom on the South Korean side of Peace House. The dialogue lasted about 100 minutes. After the morning dialogue, the two heads of state had lunch, planted a pine tree near the inter-Korean military demarcation line in the afternoon, took a walk on the bridge in Panmunjom, and then entered the afternoon talks.

After the two heads of state signed and jointly announced the agreement, South Korea will then host a welcome dinner for North Korea's supreme leader, Kim Jong-un, on the third floor of Peace House.
