Sydney is often rated as one of the most livable cities in the world, so what is the most livable area in Sydney? Sydney's livable list was released recently, with several Chinese districts, including Chatswood and Burnwood, on the list.
, Surry Hills and Waverton's Crows Nest was named the most livable region in the list, known as the Urban livable Index (Urban Living Index).
Areas that used to be industrial zones, such as Pyrmont,Darlinghurst,Waterloo,Redfern and Erskineville, were in the top 20.
In the list, research firm McCrindle ranked Sydney's 228 regions in turn. But similar regional rankings are always controversial. McCrindle's list is based on 20 indicators, including society, employment, city appearance, affordability of house prices and ease of transportation.
Restaurants, cafes, shopping malls, cultural and artistic facilities, and education are among the indicators of city appearance. In the "convenience of traffic" indicator, whether residents can walk to work became a score.
The list shows a strong correlation between housing density and livable levels. Seven of the top 10 areas are among Sydney's top 20.
In the course of the review, McCrindle also interviewed 1000 Sydney citizens randomly. 90 percent of respondents said affordability of house prices should be an important indicator of livable levels. Many worry that their children may not be able to afford the high prices in Sydney.
Sydney's acceptance of high-density homes is rising, with 70 percent of respondents currently living in apartment buildings, according to the survey. For Sydney people who have never lived in apartments, 50% said they would consider moving into apartments.
McCrindle's list of Sydney's 10 best-to-live areas is: Pyrmont-Ultimo,Marrickville,Potts Point-Woolloomooloo,North-Sydney-Lavender Bay,Randwick,Chatswood-Artarmon,Leichhardt-Annandale and Neutral Bay-Kirribilli..
Chinese District Chatswood ranked 5th, Ashfield 23rd, Burnwood 26th and Hurstville 31st.
Lethbridge Park-Tregear, and Bradbury-Wedderburn, who are far from CBD, are in the bottom two of the list.
