Bali's (Bali) plans to impose a new tourism tax on overseas tourists, the Daily Mail reported. In a few months, Australians will have to pay more to go to Bali.

It is reported that Bali has always been the preferred resort for tourists with limited budgets. The island receives millions of visitors a year, reaching 5.7 million in 2017 alone. Most of them come from China and Australia. The number of visitors in 2018 is expected to reach 6 million.

Currently, Bali plans to levy a $14 tax on each overseas visitor to fund its environmental and cultural protection programs.

Bali also banned the use of disposable plastic products last month in an effort to curb the island's waste.

Bali Governor Koster (Wayan Koster) said the taxes would be used to boost Bali's environment and culture, and believed tourists could understand that tourism would not be postponed to Bali.

Balinese authorities are currently discussing details of the measure, including the way the tax is collected.
