According to the Daily Mail, the Australian Competition and Consumer Council (ACCC) pointed out that home users of the national broadband network, (NBN), enjoy the same speed as the original ADSL service, but pay more for it.

It is reported that the national broadband network has been criticized since its launch in 2009, service delays and other problems. The affordability of the package has become a problem for low-income earners. The cost of the package is higher than that of the ADSL package used by most customers. Currently, customers pay A $50 a month, still enjoy ADSL network services and voice package, and can get 100g traffic. An unlimited flow package is available for A $60.

On Monday, Sims (Rod Sims), head of the Australian Competition and Consumer Council, said the agency was watching for the most basic set of packages charged by NBN for new customers, which cost at least A $10 more per month than the corresponding ADSL package. For those with low incomes, this is a fundamental issue of equity.

(NBN Co), the national broadband network company, has failed to deliver on its promise to provide faster and more affordable broadband services, Sims warned.

He believes that the price of the state broadband network's most basic level of service should be pegged to the existing ADSL price, which is fair to customers. Because of the phasing out of existing services, customers have to switch to national broadband networks. More importantly, the extra fees are valuable to customers who buy higher-speed packages.

It is understood that as of March 28, Australia has about 8.77 million home and business customers ready to access the national broadband network. Another 3 million businesses also plan to access the network service by the end of 2020.
