'Community sadness Day': Melbourne Tram Restaurant may cease Operation

Diners and supporters were surprised to learn that Melbourne's historic purple-and-red-car colonial tram restaurant, (The Colonial Tramcar Restaurant), had been suspended due to safety concerns.

"We can't just watch this happen," said Angela Brullo Powell, a Facebook fan at Melbourne Tramways.

"I've been to the tram restaurant many times, and I can't describe what a wonderful experience it is. Please let this go on! "

Ms Powell was just one of many frustrated supporters that the tram restaurant project had to be suspended because the wooden structure of the old carriages had been so weathered that it could not pass the safety assessment.

This famous tour usually passes through Albert Park,St Kilda and South Melbourne. But at the weekend tram restaurant was called off, diners can only stop at South Melbourne to enjoy the scenery.

Tracey Van Lawick was the first affected passenger, and tram dinners became static scenery dinners.

The new state tourist had to run out of three-course dinner while the tram stopped at the busy Normanby St bus stop.

"some people want some discount for that, and they say someone will contact us. We are not allowed to reschedule or get a refund. "

"the staff is good, and the food is good. But if only we could feel the whole tram dinner experience. "

Tram restaurant operators wrote on their Facebook on Saturday calling for the state government to step in.

Facebook sent 470 replies and 530 shares, and many people who bought trolley restaurant coupons were not sure if they would get a refund.

There are a lot of angry responses at the bottom of Facebook's post.

There are also many who have expressed disappointment with government bureaucracy.

The owner of the tram restaurant, Paul Oz / 39 Brien, said the tram restaurant had served more than 3 million customers for 35 years, and had never done any serious harm to any customer or staff.

Mr. O'Brien says Yarra Trams has given his company only two weeks to solve security problems, which is simply an impossible task. The tram maintenance workshop in Bendigo, Victoria, could not even schedule the renovation of the tram restaurant until 2020.

"We are anxious to find solutions that will protect our 60 employees from immediate dismissal, the livelihoods of many local Victorian suppliers and, of course, tens of thousands of tourists and tram meals for local families."

Nicolas Gindt, the president of Yarra Tram, says they still support tram restaurants, but the safety of customers and employees is their top priority.

"We acknowledge that this is a difficult decision for tram restaurants and customers, but we cannot allow trams that do not meet safety standards to operate on the tram network."

Mr. O\ x {e16c} 39 Brien denied Yarra Trams's claim that the tram was unsafe.

"the Yarra Trams has been checking our trams every week since 2010 until two weeks ago, and everything is fine. Why not last week or safe week alone? With all due respect, this is confusing. "
