Introduction

Tallowa Dam is located in the inland mountainous area of (The City of Shoalhaven), in the Shawen region of eastern New South Wales, about 180km by car from Sydney, the capital of New South Wales, and about 20km from the small town of Kangaroo Valley.

Located on the Shawen River (Shoalhaven River), Tallowa Dam was built in 1976, 43 meters high and 518 meters long, forming a catchment lake of 930 hectares.

Tallowa Dam is an important part of the water supply system in the Shawerhaven region. The dam was built to provide water to Sydney and Wolonggang (Wollongong) and the surrounding areas during the drought period, as well as to provide drinking water for the Shaoerhaven region.

Surrounded by forests and picturesque, Tallowa Dam features barbecue picnics, latrines, viewing platforms and other facilities. In addition, Tallowa Dam has Australia's largest fish lift. The lift, built on the side of the dam, was built to protect the natural ecology of the Shauerhaven River at the stage of the dam, allowing fish to migrate through the bucket of the lift between the upper and lower reaches of the Shauerhaven River. Avoid ecological damage caused by dam construction in many parts of the world.
