Australian Ex-Prisoners of War Memorial is located in (Ballarat Botanical Gardens), the Ballarat Botanical Garden in Ballarat, Victoria's third largest city.
Built in 2004 near the southern entrance to the Ballarat Botanical Garden, Australian Ex-Prisoners of War Memorial was designed by Ballarat artist Peter Brizzard (Peter Blizzard) to commemorate soldiers who had sacrificed and contributed to Australia. Carved on a 130m-long marble wall are the names of 35000 Australian soldiers who fought for Australia during World War I, World War II and the Korean War. After being captured by the enemy, he was finally released to Australia, representing Australia's national honor.
Australian Ex-Prisoners of War Memorial has a grayish stone road, similar to a railway sleeper, reminiscent of the paving stones used on the Thai-Myanmar railway, two black polished granite walls to the south of the monument. All known Australian prisoners of war are named above, all in alphabetical order, not rank, reflecting Australia's spirit of equality.
