Kata Tjuta Dunes Viewing Area

Kata Tjuta dune viewing area, Petermann NT 0872, Australia

Introduction of Kata Tjuta Dunes Viewing Area

Kata Tjuta Dunes Viewing Area is on the west side of the Uluru boulder, known as the "red heart of Australia," about 35km from Yulara, the main resort and hub of Uuru.

With an area of about 40 square km2 and a mix of 36 dome stones of varying sizes and height, the highest elevation is 1066 metres and a height of 546 metres from the ground. In the local indigenous language, the meaning of Katachuta means "long land" is the best illustration of the unusual rock shape here.

Kata Tjuta Dunes Viewing Area is the best place to view the Catachu panorama as well as the sunrise, as the sun shines directly on these boulders at sunrise, and overlooks Urulu.

Tips:

  • Walk about 200 meters from the parking lot to Kata Tjuta Dunes Viewing Area,;
  • There are two views of Katachuta, the other of which is Kata Tjuta Sunset View Area, which is the best place to enjoy the sunset in Katachuta, about 15 km away;
  • The Kata Chutta Shahu viewing area is crowded at sunrise but usually quiet at sunset; the opposite is true for the Kata Chutta Sunset viewing area;
  • Arrive at KataTjuta Dunes Viewing Area, you must enter Ururu Carta Chuta National Park and buy tickets to the National Park. For details, please refer to UluruKata Tjuta National Park.
