& The basic rights of quot; was my biggest concern during my presidency of the EU Council, German CDU politician and Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel said at the EU parliament in Brussels. & quot;" it is the cornerstone of Europe. During the new crown epidemic, these basic rights were partially limited at a high cost. Ms. Merkel said she felt unusually hard to make such a decision.

& quot; I believe in Europe & quot;

Merkel also stressed :& quot; the new crown epidemic must not be an excuse to undermine democratic principles. & quot; I believe in Europe. I firmly believe that Europe is not only a heritage of history, but also a vision and hope for the future. quot;&

Ms Merkel has slammed populism during the epidemic. quot; lies and false information, like hatred and demagoguery, can not overcome the epidemic, she said. & quot; she believes that populism & quot; that will deny the truth & show the limits.

On wednesday, mrs merkel arrived in brussels and received a reception from eu parliament chancellor, David Sassoli. It was her first trip abroad since the outbreak of the new crown. Merkel's trip aims to brief the EU parliament on Germany's goal of chairing the EU Council.

Towards mid-July agreement

On July 1, Germany took over the chairmanship of 27 EU countries for a term of six months. The heads of state and government of the European Union hope to reach consensus on a package of financial assistance of approximately 1.7 trillion euros in Brussels on July 17. The plan is valid until 2027, which also includes the reconstruction fund, which is believed to overcome the economic crisis caused by the new crown epidemic.
