When Justine was pulled from the water to the ship for first aid, it was already bleeding heavily.

The RACQ CQ rescue helicopter, which routinely patrolled the area, took the victim to Proserpine, and refuelled the victim there.

Crew member Ben McCauley said emergency measures played a key role in saving the victim`s life.

"the first aid she got was really effective," he said.

"We hardly did anything, and the wound in her thigh was wrapped so well that the blood was almost completely stopped. The man who gave her first aid did a really good job. "

Although he had not seen Justine`s wound, he heard that "her thigh had been excised in a large chunk", accompanied by arterial bleeding.

Justine`s calf muscles were also reported to have been attacked.
