According to Traveller, the new analysis of OAG, an aviation data company, reveals the world`s ten most profitable routes.
In the 12 months to March 2019, the world`s most profitable route was (British Airways) `s (Heathrow)-New York Kennedy (JFK) route in London, with revenues of more than $1.15 billion (A $1.7 billion), according to a new analysis by OAG. This is the first and only route with revenue of more than $1 billion.
Qantas (Qantas) `s Melbourne-Sydney route ranked second, with revenues of $861 million (A $1.26 billion) over the same period. Since the route`s flight is a small 737, with only 174 seats on board and only 12 in business class, the 90-minute flight has paid off surprisingly.
In third place was Emirates (Emirates) `s Heathrow-Dubai route in London, with revenues of $796 million (about A $1.17 billion).
In addition, Singapore Airlines (Singapore Airlines) is the only airline with two routes into the top 10. Of these, the London-Singapore route earned US $735 million (about A $1.08 billion) and the Singapore-Sydney route earned US $549 million (A $809 million).
Of the top 10 revenue routes, five belong to domestic routes, three of which are from the United States.
Grant (John Grant), an analyst, said every airline has a small number of lucrative routes that generate attractive benefits in terms of competitive advantage, market environment and limited competition, and airlines will protect such routes at all costs.
The top 10 routes of the global income for 2018/19 are as follows(the figure is the revenue, in US$):
- Kennedy Heathrow (British Airways): 1.159 billion
- Melbourne-Sydney (Qantas): 861 million
- Dubai-Heathrow (Emirates): 796 million
- Heathrow-Singapore (Singapore Airlines): 735 million
- San Francisco-Newark (United Airlines): 689 million
- Los Angeles-Kennedy:661 million.
- Heathrow-Doha (Qatari Airlines): 639 million
- Hong Kong-Heathrow (Cathay Pacific): 604 million
- Sydney, Singapore (Singapore Airlines): 5.49 million
- Toronto-Vancouver (Air Canada): 541 million
