"Strawberry Sunday"-thousands of people flock to farms to buy strawberries to support growers

Station 9 message

Thousands of people flocked to strawberry farms in southeastern Queensland to buy strawberries in support of growers, making them known today as Strawberry Sunday.

Hundreds of people lined up at Chambers Flat Strawberry Farm this morning to make sure their money went straight into the hands of growers.

Some buy small boxes, others buy large ones.

Many families rushed to the fields to pick their own strawberries.

"it`s a school holiday," Damon Joseph said. "it`s good for the whole family to come out and do something different."

Customers come from all directions, close to each other.

"there aren`t a lot of strawberries on the Gold Coast right now, so we`re here," Josh Wade said.

Young and old, they like different kinds of strawberries. Some people even showed up in fancy clothes.

One-year-old Williow wore a strawberry T-shirt with pink clothes.

The Chambers Flat Strawberry Farm is one of many farms that feel the love of the people of Kunzhou.

The industry has almost collapsed since last week when someone planted needles in strawberries planted deliberately in Queensland.
