Philippine fishing boats collided with Chinese freighters, and at least 12 Filipinos disappeared

(AFP, Manila ,29) Philippine media reported that a fishing boat in the Philippines collided with a Chinese cargo ship, resulting in the disappearance of at least 12 Filipino people.

The incident took place yesterday evening outside the northwest coast of West Mindoro province, Philippines, according to Rappler Philippine Daily Inquirer Online (Inquirer.net) and online media.

Both Philippine media quoted the Philippine Coast Guard, but daily inquiries reported 12 missing, Rappler 12 crew members and two employees of the company reported missing.

Rappler said the vessel collided with a Philippine fishing boat was a Chinese cargo ship, while the Daily Inquiry reported that it was flying the Hong Kong flag.

The Daily Inquiry quoted Panopio (Leovegildo Panopio), commander of the Coast Guard South Tagalog District (Southern Tagalog), as saying :" When we arrived at the scene, we saw the overturned ship, but we did not see anyone. 」

Panopio said the search and rescue operation would resume during the day due to strong adverse searches in the evening ocean currents. An incident occurred 24 kilometres from the sea off the city of Paruan (Paluan).

Philippine President Duterte (Rodrigo Duterte) was criticized for playing down the incident, calling Beijing`s proposal for a joint investigation.
