Strong tropical cyclone Omar! All the beaches on the gold coast are closed, everybody be careful!

 25 Feb 2019

All beaches in Gold Coast and most of the sunny coasts are still closed today (Feb. 24) due to the impact of the former tropical cyclone Oma. The severe weather warning, designed from Fraser Island to the New State border, warned that the current subtropical depression could trigger dangerous waves and unusually high tides.

The Queensland Surfer Life Center, (Surf Life Saving Queensland), said that while all the beaches on the Gold Coast were closed, the beaches on the Sunshine Coast would be open one by one. Rescue workers rescued 27 people, including 13 surfers, under harsh conditions yesterday (February 23).

Weather forecaster Michael Knepp of the Australian Meteorological Service said waves 5 metres high had been recorded along the coast. "We still receive warnings of extreme high tides and dangerous waves," she said. "but once we get through the next few days, these things will begin to ease as the former tropical cyclone Oma moves away from the coast."

"the worst-case scenario is probably in the past few days, because we`re starting to see that the bad weather has eased, so today may still not be the best day to go to the beach unless you`re a surfer." "I heard some surfers say they saw the highest waves in 30 years on some beaches."
