A pup in Adelaide's Port River), South Australia, died just a day after being born in Adelaide. Scientists say further research should be done on the deaths of dolphins in childbirth to avoid such tragedies.

Yesterday, the caretaker of the Adelaide River Dolphin Reserve in South Australia found the body of a one-day-old pup, according to Radio 7. This is the third time the river has died in the past four years and comes from the same female dolphin.

Autopsy results suggest that the dolphin cub may have died of severe bleeding.

Museum scientist Camber (Cath Kemper) said little was known about dolphin childbirth, making it difficult to determine the cause of the newborn`s death.

All three dolphin cubs are said to have died within a week of birth, with all indications that they were alive at birth.
