Australian Post (Australia Post) will hire 2800 new employees in response to rising demand for delivery this Christmas, the Herald Sun reported.

Australia Post is expected to hire 2800 new staff to ensure safe delivery of all packages and cards by December 25. During Christmas last year, the postal service failed to deliver a small number of parcels in time, sparking customer discontent.

This is Australia Post`s biggest ever staff recruitment, 800 of which will continue until after the holiday, including driver and post office and liaison center staff. Other positions include motorcycle and bicycle dispatchers, mail and parcel pickers, and forklift drivers.

It is understood that last December, Australia Post sent a total of 37 million parcels, this Christmas is expected to break the record.

From the end of the week, the Australian Post will launch Saturday delivery, and the Post Office will soon extend its opening hours.

As the Christmas boom approaches, the Australian Post sends an average of 1 million parcels a day. These parcels come not only from online shopping, but also from physical stores.

While some parcel postage rates have risen since last month, the good news is that Australia Post charges only 65 cents per card to save the disappearing tradition of sending cards.
