Introduction to Universitas 21

Universitas 21, which has no Chinese translation, was founded in 1997 as an international college body composed of 17 outstanding research universities in the world. It was originally composed of 17 member universities in 10 different countries, such as the University of New South Wales, the University of Glasgow, the National University of Singapore, the University of Hong Kong and so on. These 17 member universities have a total of about 500000 students. 40000 of the researchers also had about 2 million graduates.

The establishment of Universitas 21 aims to further improve the education, scientific research and academic level of member schools, strengthen the international communication ability of member colleges and universities, and establish international common standards and international consensus among member colleges and universities.

In 2001, Universitas 21, in partnership with Thomson Learning, established an online university called Universitas 21 Global, which is headquartered in Singapore.

In 2004, the University of Freiburg in Germany suspended its membership in Universitas 21.

In 2005, Korea`s Koryo University joined the organization, and Shanghai Jiaotong University joined Universitas 21, which changed the number of Universitas 21 member colleges to 18.
