I'm in Townsville and it's fine: A guide to deep destinations in Australia

If you are a good diver, don`t miss the world`s top sunken ship diving resort: SS Yongala. The ship sank in 1911 because of a typhoon. After World War II, Australia`s government began to clear the coastline of torpedoes, only to discover the sunken ship sleeping on the bottom of the sea for more than 50 years.


As long as 110 meters long, Yongjia La is the largest and most complete historical shipwreck in Australia. Yongjia La lost here, but formed a special undersea ecology. The hull of the ship is covered with soft coral reefs and surrounded by numerous marine creatures, such as stingrays, turtles, giant Queensland groupers, pike, sea snakes and so on.

Take the ferry from Townsville to the Magnetic Island in just 20 minutes: one of Queenslanders`favourite resorts.
