A woman died in Melbourne's CBD apartment in the early hours of this morning. Streets have been blocked. Homicide investigation

At 05:15 this morning, many students were still asleep as police stormed into an apartment on A`Beckett St in CBD, Melbourne, injured when a woman was assaulted.

But after the scene medical staff rescue ineffective, died on the spot.

The apartment, called EQ Tower, is a 65-story serviced apartment that rents about $125 a day.

At present, the A / 39 / Beckett St between Elizabeth Street and Queens Street is blocked by police. Police are also interviewing residents of the building, where long-term tenants are mainly international students, as well as short-term tenants via websites such as Airbnb,booking,Expedia.

About 75% of long rentals include self-service owners and 25% of short-term tenants.

A 20-year-old man outside the building trying to stop photographers from shooting, said sadly: "my friend just passed away, hoping to give her some respect."
