With effect from November 16, 2019, two types of visas will be withdrawn from the historical stage, as well as two new visas to help remote areas develop better:

489 visas will be replaced by technical visas for new and remote areas (category 491 visas)

Guarantee visas for employers in new remote areas (category 494 visas)

187 suspension of applications for permanent residence visas for technology in remote areas

In addition, all 491 visa holders of the co-applicant spouse or child, etc., must also study in the designated area, working life for at least 3 years. If the child holds a 491 visa, he or she can go to other designated remote areas.

The current 489 visa also requires the spouse or child of the co-applicant to live in the designated area.

489 to 491 transition schedule

September 10, 2019 is the last day to submit 489EOI and the last day the state government issues an 489EOI invitation. (that is, after this day, the immigration system will turn off the 489 visa option) 67 days earlier than the original New deal implementation date, November 16, 2019!

November 15, 2019, 11:59 in the evening is the last day that students who have been invited by 489EOI apply for visas. (it also means the official termination of guarantee 489 visas in remote states)

On November 16, 2019, the new EOI system and 491 options will be officially opened. Starting the same day, the state government will be able to extend 491 invitations to applicants who meet the requirements. At the same time, applicants can also start submitting 491 visas.

Note: the above changes are only for 489 and do not affect 189 and 190 applications.


FAQ

1. Is the quota for new visas adequate?

In fiscal year 2019, 2020, state government will receive more quotas for guarantee-compliant applicants. Compared with 28850 people in fiscal year 2017, there will be 38968 places for this fiscal year, of which 24968 will be visa 190 and 14000 will be for 491 visas.


2. What is the application fee for the new visa?

The main applicant`s application fee is$4045, and the applicant over 18 years and under 18 is$2025 and$1010.

If the adult applicant does not reach the IELTS level of four 4.50, an additional fee of $4890 will be required.


3. Can the new visa be transferred to permanent residence to obtain a green card?

Yes, the 491 visa is a temporary visa and can be applied for a 191 permanent residence visa after three years of life and work(revenue is still under negotiation). The 191 visa will be officially launched on November 16, 2022.


4. How do you prove you live in remote areas?

491 the holder must provide the immigration office with the latest contact information. As a requirement of the visa terms, 491 visa holders are required to inform the relevant authorities of the new address or information about the new employer within 28 days of moving or changing their jobs. You may be asked to join interview or provide other materials to prove that you live and work in remote areas of Australia. For example, rental contract, bill, employment contract and tax refund certificate, etc.


5. Can the deputy application join the principal applicant after being invited?

Yes. If the visa requirements are met, the visa termination date will be the same as that of the principal applicant.


6. what will happen if the 491 master applies for divorce from his spouse?

If the deputy applicant (spouse or other family member) is separated from the main application, they may continue to hold a 491 visa. As long as the spouse meets the requirements for a trans-191 visa, including tax income and other visa conditions, they may be eligible to apply for a 191 visa.
