Adelaide was hit by strong winds, blackouts in many areas and the impact of 20, 000 residents

The power outage in Adelaide led to a blackout of about 20, 000 households.

Most of the blackouts are north-east and south of Adelaide, including Parafield,Salisbury,Enfield,Hawthorn and Torrens Park.

A SA Power Networks spokesman said the power outages in the northern regions of Northfield and Clearview were due to substation failures.

More than 33500 homes were restored to 10, 000 users by about 10:00 when the 9.30 blackout took place in the morning.

Bad weather began early on Monday, with strong winds crossing at speeds of about 100km per hour, affecting Adelaide,Mt Lofy Ranges,Yorke Peninsula and Murraylands.

Destructive winds have also blown to many trees SA Power Networks warning people to stay away from broken wires.

Strong winds also bring 2, 5 mm showers and thunderstorms.

Whyalla,Renmark,Murry Bridge, Naracoorte is also likely to rain.

Strong winds also blocked Adelaide`s public transport system, and a tree broke down on the railway near Cheltenham Station.

Traffic in downtown Adelaide was also hampered.

Bad weather also caused Mt Lofy road roads to be blocked by trees from, Main North rd and diagonal rd traffic lights.

The ses National Emergency Service responded to 42 accidents at 8.20 a.m., up from more than 70 at its current location.

Adelaide`s highest temperature today is 27 °C and will drop to 18 degrees on Tuesday.
