A boy found a stack of A $50 bills floating in the water on Monday morning at an Elavara (Illawarra) stream, the Daily Telegraph reported. When emergency service personnel arrived at the scene, they found more banknotes and spent the morning rescuing them from the water.
It is reported that on Monday morning, a boy in mullet stream (Mullet Creek), in (Dapto), Dapto, found A $50 bills floating in the water.
New state police, state emergency service, fire and rescue agencies all arrived at the scene.
After a search, officials found more notes floating in the water.
At present, the police are trying to determine whether the banknotes are true or false, followed by an investigation into when and how the banknotes will float in the stream.
Police also called on people with relevant clues to call the fight crime hotline report.
