Adelaide, bear, play with fire and burn down your house! I'm seriously hurt!

 23 Apr 2018

A five-year-old boy was sent to ICU. after the fire burned down his home in Adelaide.

Warren Wittmann, `s burned-out neighbor says he heard his neighbors screaming for help about 7am this morning. He ran out and saw his neighbor, a single father, desperately dragging his three-year-old daughter and five-year-old son out of the burning house.

"he was completely crazy, screaming and crying, so I hugged the little boy into the bathroom and gave him cold water," he said.

Then Mr. Wittmann and his neighbor, Peter Woolford, quickly picked up the garden hose and tried to put out the fire.

"when I ran to the window, the window blew open, so I just plugged the pipe in and started putting out the fire," he said.

Mr. Woolford said he quickly ran to the back of the house to spray water in order to avoid burning in the back.

At the same time, the injured boy was rushed to hospital for first aid, his arms, abdomen and neck were burned and smoke was inhaled. He`s on ICU`s watch now.

They believed the fire was caused by the little boy, who was playing with a lighter in his bedroom.

"it could turn out to be a terrible disaster. The child could have died in the fire, "said AlanFisk from the fire department."

Mr. Fisk also said the accident was a reminder to parents that the lighter should be put in place and locked.

"it`s very important to keep things like lighters and matches away. It`s okay to keep them out of reach, but it`s the safest way to lock them up."
