Housing prices in Australia's five capital cities fell across the board, and Melbourne, Sydney, took the lead.

After Christmas and New year`s holidays, home prices fell in all five Australian capitals in the second week of 2019, led by Melbourne with 0.35 percent and Sydney by 0.27 percent.

Australian home prices have fallen 2.98 percent since the fiscal quarter, with Sydney and Melbourne, the two biggest cities, down 4.01 percent and 3.35 percent, respectively.

Overall house prices in Australia have fallen nearly 7% in the past 12 months. Of the five capital cities, only Adelaide was up 1.3%.

Home prices have fallen 7.5% over the entire cycle from the previous high to now.
