Buy broccoli from Coles, with highly toxic spiders.

 09 Nov 2018

Recently, Ms. Tamahra Moore of Townsville, Kunzhou, bought home a box of broccoli from the Coles supermarket.

When cut, a red-backed spider crawls out of the head of a broccoli.

Moore scared one, and then brought the spider, broccoli, and the box back to Coles to ask for an explanation.. The Coles department manager said it had never happened before and would work with colleagues to work with suppliers to investigate the matter.

Black, red-backed spiders with bright red dots on the back are highly toxic. The venom affects the human nervous system. The main symptoms are persistent, severe pain and death. About 2000 people in Australia are bitten by red-backed spiders each year and need timely antitoxin treatment.
