Today, more than 500 students and staff have been evacuated from the department of science at Swinburne University`s Hawthorn campus.
MFB employees say it was the science and technology lab that issued a gas leak alert and that heavily armed firefighters are on the scene.
Surveillance shows there`s no one in the gas leak lab right now,
Roads will be closed on John St and Burwood Rd near the campus.
