Japanese football star Keiyoshi Matsuda joins Melbourne winning team freely

Japan star Yoshimoto free to join Melbourne victory team.

Melbourne Victory has announced the signing of Japanese star Keiyoshi Matsuda.

The defending champions confirmed the deal Monday morning on Fox Sports News.

Honda`s move is seen as one of the most important in the Australian Super League, and Honda, which has made 98 appearances for the national team, joined freely after the expiration of its contract with Mexico`s Pachuca.

The 32-year-old, who has played for Serie A giant AC Milan and Russia`s central army in Moscow, is regarded as one of Asia`s most famous football stars.

He made three substitute appearances at the World Cup in Russia, scoring one goal and a assists, and Japan also made it to the top 16.

Honda in the United States gave a video interview saying he was flattered by Melbourne`s interest in him.

"I am very happy to join Melbourne to win."

"after the World Cup, I knew they were interested in me. I like the new challenge, and that`s me, "he said."

"I look forward to playing as soon as possible."

He will arrive in Melbourne on August 13 or 14.
