What happened to Adelaide Burnside Village? Two famous old shops to evacuate!

 19 Jan 2018

When it comes to Burnside Village, in Adelaide, everyone should know. This shopping center can be called Adelaide`s fashion center.

Like Adelaide, the first and only ZARA is in Burnside Village..

There are not only a variety of fashion brands, but also a variety of gourmet restaurants, as well as Australian supermarket chains. Can be described as eating, drinking, wearing, playing, everything!

But recently, two of the first businesses to take root here say they want to move away from the mall! It is reported that, Burnside Village is located in the east of Adelaide, just 11 minutes from CBD.

It is one of Adelaide`s hottest shopping malls. There are spacious halls, fully transparent glass roofs, and footpaths that change colors with the season.

There are not only more than 100 high-quality fashion brands stationed here, but also comfortable and leisurely sitting areas. Consumers can still sit here when they are tired of shopping, blowing the air-conditioning, and looking at the blue sky and white clouds. It can be said that shopping and entertainment do not miss!

But recently, there are 2 well-known old shops to withdraw from this popular shopping center! One is a bookstore, Dymocks, and the other is a clothing store, Sydney Street..

Dymocks is reported to be an old Burnside Village store that has been based here for more than 20 years. However, given the rent and hours of business, Dymocks closed its stores in Burnside Village on Jan. 8. On January 18, the new store in King William Rd will be officially open.

The store`s owner, Sue Gardner, said the bookstore would have to pay a lot less rent and have more flexible hours after the move. Gardner said the two locations each had their own advantages, saying: "it`s definitely different from what it used to be."

"the time for the new store will be more flexible, and the atmosphere around, King William Rd will be better, people will be more shopping-hungry, and I think it`s a great location."

According to Gardner, the new store not only saves a lot of rent, but also increases the store`s exposure.

Another old store in Burnside Village, has been evacuated. Sydney Street, which specializes in women`s clothing, closed its doors on December 30, 2017. The reason is that Jan Partington, the company`s director, was hit too hard by the death of her husband, Robert.

It is reported that this store came earlier than the bookstore Dymocks. As early as 1988, when Burnside Village was built, the Partington and his wife opened a shop here. In the mall, only the Cue, Portmans, Sportscraft and Pasta Deli stores took root earlier than Sydney Street. However, this old store, which has a long history, has also decided to give up Burnside Village.

The store`s acting manager, Jane Rodger, said: "We don`t have any plans at this stage, but the director of our company will slowly accept the reality."

At the same time, she said, you can still buy Sydney Street clothes online, which will be shipped directly from the company`s Kent Town storage room.

Ric Walker, manager of the, Burnside Village Shopping Center, expressed some regret at the evacuation of the two old stores. However, he hopes that both Dymocks and Sydney Street will go well.

Mr. Walker said: "the bookstore is moving because we changed business hours.

Now that there are two other businesses who want to fill their vacancies, we`re going to show you where the two companies are sacred. " Because there were fewer pedestrians outside the mall, he said, store rents outside the mall would be cheaper.

While Burnside Village Mall is still playing a key role in the Adelaide retail market, the road to future growth is not as smooth as Australia`s overall retail downturn. In recent years, the Australian retail industry can be described as a cold winter.

Not only the national luxury brand bag Oroton entered the bankruptcy process, the famous outdoor brand Mountain Designs is also facing the closure of the store! Other big names such as Diana Ferrari,Topshop&Topman Australia,Marcs,David Lawrence,Herringbone,Rhodes & Beckett,Pumpkin Patch and Payless Shoes are falling down one after another! Even Speciality Fashion Group, which owns brands such as Katies,Millers and Rivers, is closing more than 300 stores.

Every store that is still alive, fighting!
