As firefighters tried to put out the fire, the changing direction of the wind posed a great challenge to extinguishing the fire. Rescuers are taking steps to protect the houses and property of nearby residents.

By 03:30, the fire was under control, but firefighters continued to struggle.

About 50 kilometers south-east of Darwin, a fire also broke out in Wheewall Road, plain of Mala, and is in an emergency. The blaze was also fuelled by strong winds, which spread, and bulldozers and hydrobomb planes were fighting the blaze at the site.

Bushfire NT said its current focus is on protecting lives and homes, while reminding citizens to develop fire prevention plans and contact them in a timely manner.
