More than 800,000 Chinese students who have just graduated from overseas universities have returned to China this year, a record number.
A new survey released last week by you (UniCareer), an online vocational education platform, found that the number of returned students in China increased by 70 percent from 2019 due to the impact of the new crown epidemic and the tightening of immigration and employment policies in many countries.
Given the impact of the new crown epidemic and the economic downturn on the number of new jobs, these returnees now face increased competition in the Chinese job market. They also need to compete with the record-breaking 8.74 million new graduates who graduated from Chinese universities this year.
According to your survey, more than 60% of these returnees returned to China this year master degree .13.2% of whom studied in Australia, while 28% and 26.3% went to the United States and Britain, respectively.
In addition, only about 5% of overseas returnees get annual salaries of about 300000 yuan or more. Nearly 40% of the annual salary is less than 100000 yuan.

The report added that about 40% of returnees found jobs in the financial or technological industries, but only 3% were successful in manufacturing. Another 5.7 per cent entered the government departments or academic field.
