Pilots of Tiger Airlines (Tigerair), a low-cost airline, announced a four-hour (5-9 am) strike operation at Australia`s major airports on Friday in an effort to secure better pay.
"the decision to stop work is not an easy one," said Laochland (James Lauchland), a senior (AFAP) industry official at the Australian pilot Federation on Monday afternoon, announcing the strike operation, according to Radio 9. Tiger pilots fly the same aircraft as JetStar`s (Jetsta), Virgin (Virgin) and Qantas (Qantas) pilots, but there are differences in hiring conditions. The current labor agreement is well below industry standards in terms of pay and benefits, and Tiger Airlines pilots are looking for justice and equity. "
The strike is attended by only members of the Australian pilot Federation, which accounts for 75 percent of Tiger`s pilots.
