On Saturday night, hundreds of heavily armed police officers rushed to the scene as the Melbourne high school graduate revelry went out of control.

According to the Daily Mail, a large number of high school graduates from the Monington Peninsula in southeastern Melbourne gathered Saturday night to celebrate frantically. Police officers in ordinary uniforms were attacked and riot officers came to the scene with shields and batons.

Police arrived at the scene to deal with "zero-star fighting" and general anti-social behavior among young party participants, police officer Russo (Chris Russo) told the media.

But witnesses near the scene said the culprits were older men who harassed teenagers and incited violence.

For Melbourne high school graduates who do not plan to travel a long way to celebrate in Gold Coast Queensland, the coastal city of Lay (Rye) is a popular venue and the centre of the riots.

Local residents estimate that there may have been more than 300 teenagers on the streets last night. Around 09:30 in the evening, small clashes broke out among the crowd. The police tried to disperse the brawlers, and the teenagers threw bottles at them.

It is not clear why the fight took place. However, a man posted on the social networking site Facebook said: "A group of old people everywhere provocative fights, stealing from innocent children."

The tension was not broken until hundreds of riot police arrived.
